Margaret had a peculiar habit – she simple could not let things to, literally. Be it the clay tea cup she got as a gift for her marriage, 35 years back – which is broken now or the dinner silver ware set that she got for her retirement. Her house was filled with irrelevant and antique stuff that wouldn’t be of use to anyone. People restrained from going to her house, because they felt it was a junkyard and they might catch some incurable disease. But none of these bothered Margaret. May be having so many things, helped her live a secluded life, away from the people around her. May be, she subscribed to the theory that any useless thing, would be of use, after a span of 7 years and vice versa ( a very useful thing will tend to be useless after 7 years )
Now let’s come back to the tea cup. It was put in a box, and kept on top of the shelf, where it gathered dust and was slowly fading it’s beautiful colors of it’s intricate floral patterns. But the tea cup thought to itself, “Wow, even though I am broken to pieces ( literally ), she is not letting me go and join the earth, where I came from. I am sure that’s because, I mean so much to her, may be, I mean a world to her”.
But what the broken tea cup failed to realise was that, it was her illness ( OCD for old things and not letting it go ) and not her love that made her keep it and the broken pot was just among the several things she kept in her home and never bothered to tend to.
By believing in her ‘love’, the tea pot, simply could not realize it’s true purpose, that is, go back to where is came from, rejoin the earth and become something more beautiful, in the hands of a potter. Instead it was destined for a life, of fading colours, in a box, where no light enters and no happiness shines.
My dear friend, are you that broken tea cup in someone’s life ? Are you in a relationship, simply because, the other person, does not let you go ? Are you in a relationship simply because you share some memories from a long gone past ?
If you are, it’s time to move on. The world needs you. You have the potential to be transformed to something more beautiful. Your life means more than the darkness and the dust of that old rustic box, where you have been kept, for all eternity. It’s time to break the shackles and realize your own potential.
